SICON LaserSort receives
EUROPEAN PRODUCT DESIGN AWARD 2019

In cooperation with the European Parliament, the European Product Design Award honors the best product designers in Europe. The award was created to reward outstandingly designed products that improve life with their practical and thoughtful creations. The jury consists of independent designers, design professors and editors who are committed to brilliant design.

The evaluation is based on a number of criteria, such as: Innovation – Aesthetics – Functionality – Ergonomics – Environmental Sustainability, etc.

The SICON LaserSort is an in-house development of SICON Germany. A unique combination of previously unattained laser-based material recognition and a sophisticated pneumatic separation technology which enables clean metal and alloy materials to be separated from complex material mixtures.

In short: The LaserSort is able to detect practically all alloys from metal mixtures in one run and to separate them into different collection containers. This was not possible before. Generally, recycled materials can only be used for secondary applications, while SICON LaserSort products are suitable for primary applications as part of the cradle-to-cradle philosophy.

Unlike conventional recycling machines, the SICON LaserSort was developed by a team of laser and separation technology specialists and design experts. Technical functionality and aesthetics went hand in hand.

Boris Geyersbach, the designer responsible for the development of the LaserSort at SICON, is very pleased to receive the European Product Design Award: “This award is a confirmation and at the same time a great pleasure for the whole team and provides encouragement for future development projects”.
